Standard operating procedure

Ongoing “how we do this” procedure for the organization — not a one-time study plan.

Work instruction

Step-level instruction that implements an SOP — tighter and more local than the parent procedure.

Protocol (plan)

Pre-approved plan to be executed later — validation, qualification, mapping, study protocol.

Report (results)

Presents results and conclusions — analytical, study, validation, or investigation report.

Quality event

Deviation, OOS, complaint, CAPA, nonconformance — the event and investigation record.

Doesn’t fit cleanly

Mixed or ambiguous document — start from the general pack, or split the work into separate reviews.
